Product Designer, AWS Search, Security, Observability, Governance
Dublin, Leinster, Ireland · Posted
About the role
Observability is being rewritten. For a decade the job was to watch servers,
services, and dashboards — metrics, logs, and traces for systems that did what
they were told. That world is ending. The systems people now have to understand
reason, call tools, and act on their own, and they generate signal at a scale
and unpredictability the old tooling was never built for. When something breaks
at 2am, the question is no longer only "which host is down" — it's "what did the
system decide, why, and what did it touch."
AWS CloudWatch is where that gets solved at scale, for hundreds of thousands of
engineers. You'll focus on two of the places that future is being built: Omni, a
blank-canvas, IDE-style way to explore and query telemetry, and the DevOps agent
— an AI agent that helps engineers investigate and resolve issues with a human
in the loop. Your work will shape how engineers actually move through these
experiences: what they see first, how they navigate, and how a problem goes from
signal to cause to fix.
We're looking for a Product Designer who's hungry to do excellent craft on
genuinely hard problems. You won't be handed pixel-perfect specs to execute —
you'll own features end to end, partner closely with PM and engineering, and
grow your scope as you show you can carry it. You'll have senior designers
around you to learn from and a domain where the right answers aren't settled
yet.
If you want to sharpen your craft on one of the most consequential problems in
cloud — alongside people who treat CX as the thing that wins, not the thing you
add at the end — this is a great place to do it.
Key job responsibilities
1. Own the design of features within Omni and the DevOps agent experience — from
early exploration and IA through interaction, visual craft, and ship — with
guidance from senior designers and your manager.
2. Make complex system behavior legible: turn high-cardinality, fast-moving
telemetry and agent activity into views an engineer can actually reason about.
3. Design for the agentic shift — experiences where an AI agent helps engineers
investigate and resolve issues, and where the human stays firmly in control
(what the agent found, what it proposes, and how a person approves or redirects
it).
4. Partner day to day with PM and engineering, contributing to problem
definition — not just executing handed-off specs — and iterating quickly from
their input.
5. Build prototypes that communicate intent precisely and move conversations
forward.
6. Fold in evidence — usability testing, customer sessions, and telemetry — and
let what you learn change the design.
7. Contribute to the shared design system: use and extend patterns rather than
inventing one-off screens.
A day in the life
Morning. You pick up the feature you're closest to — say, how the Omni/DevOps
agent surfaces what it found while triaging an incident, and how an engineer
approves or redirects the next step. You've got a flow in progress and a couple
of questions from yesterday's sync. You take a focused block to push the
interaction model before the day fills up.
Midday. A working session with your PM and an engineer. You walk through your
latest cut, hear what's technically cheap versus expensive, and leave with a
sharper direction. You're part of the problem-definition conversation, not
waiting at the end of it.
Afternoon. You sit in on a customer usability session and watch someone get
stuck exactly where you worried they might. You bring the flow to design
critique, get it pressure-tested by the broader team, and give feedback on
someone else's work too. You end the day updating your prototype with what you
learned.
The throughline. You're close to real customer problems, you're growing your
scope with real support around you, and the work you do shows up in the product
in weeks, not quarters.
About the team
We're the design team behind the broader AWS Security, Search, Observability &
Governance organization. Our mandate is to make the most technical,
highest-stakes workflows in cloud feel clear, fast, and even good to use.
What's distinctive about us:
- Design is the competitive advantage here. We're betting that in a market still
figuring out what observability for the AI era even looks like, the team with
the clearest experience wins — and we back that with real scope for designers at
every level.
- We ship, and we ship hard things. Omni, the DevOps agent, core monitoring at
massive scale — these are launching now, to real customers, against real
competitors. Your work isn't theoretical.
- We work from evidence. Usability labs, customer sessions, and telemetry are
part of the rhythm, not an afterthought.
- It's a place to grow. The designers around you have deep backgrounds in AI,
cloud infrastructure, and enterprise platforms. You'll be challenged,
well-supported, and surrounded by people worth learning from.
If you want to do excellent work in observability for the AI era — and grow fast
while you're at it — come build it with us. Basic Qualifications: - Experience
in design
- Experience in delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction
designer
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience prototyping (HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash or Flash Catalyst,
or Axure) Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in mass-market consumer web /
mobile products
- Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with
developers for implementation of designs
