About the role
The role
We’re growing fast on our top-tier accounts and we’re looking for a hands-on Platform Engineer ready to grow into a Platform Architect, working directly alongside our CTO and Lead Architect.
This is deliberately a grow-into-it role. You don’t need to already be the finished multi-cloud, GitOps-at-scale architect, but you do need genuine, hands-on platform-engineering foundations today (real Terraform, real production Kubernetes) and the drive to build the rest with us. You’ll be mentored by, and work side-by-side with, very senior people, on projects most engineers only read about.
To give you a sense of the work: you could be contributing to a large Platform Engineering initiative for a major US sports league, integrating CastAI across 40+ GKE clusters and helping design a self-service GitOps platform for 20 development teams. You’ll start on scoped parts of initiatives like this and take on more architectural ownership as you prove it.
Location: EU residence required · 100% remote · Turin (Italy) a plus, not a requirement.
Compensation: €50,000–60,000 RAL, based on experience, consistent with a role you grow into, with scope (and progression toward the full Architect remit) expanding as you do.
What you must already bring (non-negotiable foundations)
5+ years in software or platform/DevOps engineering.
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code: you write and maintain Terraform yourself, in production. This is central: we don’t hire “paper architects” who draw diagrams and hand implementation to others.
Real production Kubernetes: you’ve deployed, operated and troubleshot workloads on K8s in production (not just in a lab or a single demo cluster).
Fluent, professional English: you can explain and defend a technical choice to a US-based client team without hesitation. (Italian is a nice-to-have.)
Comfort with how we work: recurring late-afternoon/early-evening syncs with US clients are a normal part of the job, with occasional heavier periods around major live events (see “How we work” below).
What you’ll grow into with us (we don’t expect all of this on day one)
Multi-cloud breadth. Our target clouds, in order of priority, are GCP, then Azure, then AWS. If you’re strong on one cloud today (e.g. AWS) and genuinely want to go deep on GCP and multi-cloud, that’s exactly the trajectory, but readiness to move beyond a single cloud is essential.
GitOps at scale. Pull-model GitOps with ArgoCD (app-of-apps / ApplicationSets), Helm and GitHub Actions, governing delivery across many teams and clusters. CI/CD pipeline experience is a start; we’ll grow you into true GitOps governance.
The authoritative client-facing architect voice: interfacing directly with enterprise architects and senior IT leadership, understanding their business needs and translating them into technical reality. Because these are clients, not an internal team, you influence by expertise and diplomacy, not authority.
Full ownership of your work: we give you a business goal; you figure out the architectural path and write the code to get there.
Nice to have
Scripting (Python, Bash); Linux and networking fundamentals.
Monitoring/observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
Cloud security best practices.
Important — please read before applying (so we don’t waste your time or ours)
This is a permanent, full-time, exclusive employee position. Due to our clients’ contractual requirements, we cannot accommodate B2B, freelance or any subcontracting arrangement. Please only apply if an employee contract works for you.
EU residence is required (the role is fully remote within Italy/Europe).
Our selection process includes a practical, hands-on technical assessment: a real conversation in which we’ll ask you to read and reason about actual Terraform/Helm/Kubernetes code. If you’re genuinely hands-on, you’ll enjoy it.
How we work
We’re not a system integrator or a “body-rental” agency. Newesis is a boutique premium fractional cloud-architecture firm, we design, build and govern resilient, cloud-native platforms for top-tier international clients in sports and media broadcasting. We run a strict Agile/Scrumban model and manage by objectives, not by the clock: we don’t mind where or when you work, as long as you hit your sprint goals and attend the necessary client syncs. Because our most important clients are in US time zones, those syncs regularly land in your late afternoon/evening, and a few times a year (around major live events) can be more intensive. We’re transparent about this up front because it’s part of the role.
